About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Lead to join our Water & Utilities team, playing a key role in ensuring the commercial and financial success of our projects.

Initially, this role will focus on the Mardi Water Treatment Plant project on the Central Coast of NSW, a critical water infrastructure upgrade that will enhance water security for the region. You will work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to manage contract negotiations, financial reporting, risk assessment, and commercial strategy, ensuring we drive successful outcomes while maintaining strong relationships.

This position can be based at either our Regents Park head office or on-site at Mardi (with regular travel as required).

Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)

  • Contract & Commercial Management: Oversee project contracts, ensuring compliance, managing variations, and identifying opportunities to improve commercial outcomes.
  • Risk & Compliance: Proactively assess and mitigate contractual risks, ensuring adherence to legal, financial, and regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and cost forecasting, driving financial performance and accountability.
  • Subcontractor & Supplier Management: Negotiate, review, and manage subcontractor and supplier agreements, ensuring cost-effective and timely project delivery.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong working relationships with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and external stakeholders.
  • Dispute Resolution & Claims Management: Lead negotiations on claims, disputes, and variations, ensuring fair and commercially sound outcomes.
  • Mentoring & Leadership: Support and guide project teams on commercial best practices, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Bring to the Team

  • Degree in Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Business, Engineering or a related field.
  • 7+ years of commercial experience in the construction or infrastructure industry.
  • Strong understanding of contracts, claims, variations, and cost control in a project delivery environment.
  • Exceptional negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to drive positive commercial outcomes.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement commercial strategies that balance risk and profitability.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with experience mentoring teams and engaging with senior stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
