Your new company

Join a large, established corporate organisation with a significant technology environment and a collaborative infrastructure team based in Newcastle. You'll work alongside infrastructure, networking, service desk, integration and data teams, supporting business-critical systems across a complex enterprise environment.

Your new role

As the Database Administrator, you'll take ownership of an environment of approximately 200 Microsoft SQL Servers, with a strong focus on on-premises infrastructure.

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day administration, performance, resilience and availability of the SQL environment, including backup and recovery, disaster recovery, optimisation, monitoring and security.

This is a hands-on infrastructure DBA position rather than a software development role. You'll work closely with the wider infrastructure and applications teams to troubleshoot issues, improve database performance and ensure critical business applications remain highly available.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server DBA experience within enterprise production environments
  • A background in infrastructure-focused DBA roles rather than SQL development
  • Strong experience with disaster recovery, high availability and database resilience
  • Extensive backup, restore, monitoring and performance optimisation experience
  • Experience administering and supporting large on-premises SQL Server environments
  • Good understanding of Windows Server and wider IT infrastructure
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot database and infrastructure-related issues
  • Experience with database security, patching and operational maintenance
  • Azure or cloud database exposure would be advantageous, but is not essential

What you'll get in return

  • Up to 10% annual bonus
  • Five weeks' annual leave
  • Fully reimbursed parking
  • Modern Newcastle office close to public transport
  • Opportunity to take ownership of a significant SQL Server environment
  • Exposure to future Azure and data platform initiatives
  • Long-term opportunities to broaden your skills beyond traditional DBA responsibilities
  • Supportive and experienced infrastructure team
