Retail Manager

JobScout Pty Ltd are working to assist our client, The Trustee for Meldi Maa FamilyTrusttrading as Night Owl Karawatha, a Night Owl convenience store. Night Owl is one of Australia’s well-known convenience brands, offering grocery and everyday essentials, snacks and drinks, coffee and food to go, and convenience services to local residents, commuters and workers in the surrounding business precinct.

Our client is seeking an experienced Retail Manager on a full-time, ongoing basis to plan, organise, direct and control the day-to-day operations of the store. You will be responsible for the store’s sales performance, stock, staff and customer service, making sure the store is well-presented, profitable and compliant at all times.

Responsibilities of our Retail Manager will include:

• Determining the store’s product range, stock levels and service standards in line with Night Owl brand requirements and local customer demand.
• Formulating and implementing purchasing policies, ordering stock from approved suppliers, and monitoring stock rotation, use-by dates and wastage.
• Setting and reviewing retail prices and margins, and implementing Night Owl promotional programs, in-store specials and product placement.
• Promoting and marketing the store’s products and services, including coffee and food-to-go offerings, to increase foot traffic and basket size.
• Preparing and managing store budgets, and monitoring sales, gross profit, labour costs and other key performance indicators.
• Maintaining accurate records of stock levels, sales, banking and other financial transactions, and conducting regular stocktakes and cash reconciliations.
• Recruiting, inducting, training and supervising retail staff, and preparing rosters to cover the store’s trading hours within the labour budget.
• Setting performance expectations for staff, providing feedback and coaching, and addressing performance and conduct issues.
• Overseeing food handling, hygiene and storage practices to meet food safety requirements.
• Ensuring compliance with responsible sale requirements for tobacco and other age-restricted products, and with relevant licensing and retail regulations.
• Resolving customer complaints and enquiries and maintaining high standards of customer service.
• Overseeing store presentation, merchandising, cleanliness and maintenance in line with franchise standards.
• Implementing loss prevention and store security procedures, including cash handling controls and incident reporting.
• Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and promoting a safe working environment for staff and customers.

To be successfully considered for the role, you:

• Hold an AQF associate degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma in Retail Management, Business, Management or a related field.
• Have a minimum of one year’s experience working as a Retail Manager or Store Manager, ideally in convenience, grocery or quick service retail.
• Have experience managing stock control, ordering, rostering and store financials, including budgets and sales reporting.
• Have proven experience leading, training and motivating a retail team.
• Have sound knowledge of food safety, WHS and age-restricted product requirements.
• Are confident using POS systems, inventory software and Microsoft Office.
• Have strong communication and customer service skills.
• Are organised, reliable and able to work flexible hours, including weekends, as required.

This is a full-time position of 38 hours per week.
